About

Welcome to St Agnes Theatre Players

We’re delighted that you’ve shown an interest in The Players, and we’re happy to meet you.

St. Agnes Garden Theatre Players, started out in 1955, performing in the garden of a local hotel. When that link was broken we dropped the ‘Garden’ from our title. Since that time we used our Church Hall as a venue for many years but more recently have been performing at the Driftwood Spars hotel, thanks to the generous support of both previous and current owners, and also at our local Miners’ and Mechanics’ Institute.

Over the years The Players have earned a reputation as a friendly drama group presenting high quality productions while not being afraid to take on challenging pieces.  Alongside our good reputation across Cornwall we have a loyal following within our own community. We are affiliated to The Cornwall Drama Association and, when we have submitted plays for their adjudication, have won many awards in various categories. Our occasional outdoor Shakespeare productions led us some years ago to involvement in the RSC’s Open Stages when we took an extract from our ‘Comedy of Errors’ production to the RSC’s Open Stages Showcase.

We also have regular play readings and occasional event evenings, and from time to time we set up trips to professional theatre performances. We are fortunate in owning our own premises that we can use for early rehearsals, meetings and storage.

If you’re considering joining us, then we’d be very pleased to see you. Clearly we will always welcome new acting members but equally, we cannot operate without the host of backstage and front of house folk. All are welcome. If you wish to join us please use the contact details on this site, stating your area of interest if known – we’ll find something for you to do, even if you’re not sure.

The Annual Subscription is £10 which gives you full membership – necessary for insurance purposes for productions – and copies of our regular Newsletter to keep you abreast of our plans.

Thank you and welcome!
